When I was at school I never heard the word ‘Entrepreneur’ even mentioned. It wasn’t until 28 jobs later that I realized that my dream wasn’t to work in the rat race – it was to find what I loved to do and figure out a way to get paid for it.
Today, this is called being an Entrepreneur. It is one of the most exciting journey’s I have ever embarked upon. It has led me from believing that I had to work for a living doing something I hated, to sacking all my bosses and waking up each day passionate and inspired about the adventure of life.
Just in case no-one has bothered to tell you – you too can be getting paid for what you love to do. In fact, not only is it possible for this too happen it is guaranteed to manifest as long as a couple of things are in place.
Those things are:
1. You find and live your Life’s Purpose
2. You never give up on your dreams
Let’s break these down…
Living Your Life’s Purpose
Not all of us are born knowing what we really want to have, be or do. I know that I wasn’t one of those guys that knew I wanted to be a singer at the age of 5, or a n athlete at the age of 8, or a fireman age of 10. Quite the opposite in fact – I didn’t have a clue what I wanted to do with my life right up until I was at the ripe old age of 25 year.
It took 28 jobs over 7 years, which to be honest was incredibly exhausting going from one thing to the next trying to find something I could get my teeth into, before I stumbled across my life’s purpose. But once I found it, man, what a relief. It’s like a weight was suddenly lifted from my shoulders and for the first time I had a clear vision of who I was and what I was here to do.
When I look back now on my journey of becoming an Entrepreneur I can see that I simply hadn’t been ready to embrace it any earlier. What I mean by that is that I wasn’t mentally or emotionally equipped to step outside the comfort zone that getting paid in a full-time job gives you. When you have a job you just turn up to work each day, do your time and then get paid at the end of the week. Then, for some, you can go home and forget about it.
Yet this is also the trap. Once you get lulled into the sleepy habit of trading your time for money for someones else’s dream it’s easy to fall into the trap of the trappings that a steady income brings such as getting into debt and living beyond your means. The downside of this is that it can be a scary thought to suddenly decide to leave it all behind for the pursuit of a bigger and grander adventure called living your life’s purpose.
Don’t get me wrong, you can certainly work for someone else and still be living your life’s purpose and if that’s the case for you, then that’s perfect. If it’s not though, then like me, you’ll probably need to march to the beat of your own drum because everyone else’s just plain sounds out of tune to you.
For me, I now can see that there are 2 ways to discover what you Life’s Purpose is.
The first is that you have always known what you want to do when you grow up and although you might have been side-tracked along the way because of circumstances you are 100% clear about it.
The second way is what I had to. I started out by doing things I was passionate about while working full time. In my spare time I would do courses, workshops, seminars, courses and anything at all that interested me or I was drawn to. I must have spent over $250,000 on these things over the years yet it has been worth every penny.
Not only did I get to have hundreds of new and unique experiences it helped me to determine those things that were just a novelty versus those things that I loved. For example, at one point I studied deep tissue therapy for 2 years because at that point in time I was passionate about helping heal people through therapeutic massage.
As it turned out, that only lasted for 3 years by which time I realized that this wasn’t what I really wanted to do. Yet, this was a stepping stone in the right direction.
Follow Your Passion Without Hesitation
By starting with whatever you are passionate about now be it a cooking class, a massage course, selling info products, writing a book, dancing, learning more about wellness or anything all – then start there. Because each step you take that moves you towards what you are passionate about will inevitably lead you to your deeper purpose and a greater fulfillment.
Your passions are always linked to your heart and not your mind. If you ‘think’ that you are passionate about something only to start it and realize that it’s not for you this really just tells you that it wasn’t coming from your true hearts desire.
I can’t count how many times this happened for me yet I still ended up finding my deeper purpose. Don’t be concerned for now if you go from one thing to the next while your are looking. At the very least you will learn lot’s of new things.
Just doing this will enrich your life and be a source of inspiration for you in a life that for many is dulled by the mundane and routine existence of daily living… which by the way is the biggest killer of dreams on the planet.
Some say that living your Life’s Purpose is more about your spiritual calling than a physical one. They say that our inner voice is always calling to us and reminding us about who we are and what we love yet we keep getting distracted away from it and so forget how to listen to what is being whispered to us from within our heart.
By moving towards your passions you will awaken your hearts deepest desires. Then you will start to notice that by listening and following your spirit it will start flowing with greater purpose in all that you think, say and do.
Getting paid for what you love is not only possible, it is your birthright. Money is nothing more than an idea backed by confidence, and when you are following your spirit without hesitation there are no limits to the amount of ideas that fill your mind and inspire your life.
It only takes one of these ideas that you confidently follow through on to transform a previously ordinary life into the kind of life that you always knew deep down inside you could have. When you do this then quitting just isn’t an option.
The sad fact is that many people tend to give up on their dreams because they get worn out by the daily grind of hectic living. But on the other side of the coin, it they were to just keep going they would soon get to a threshold where as their passions start to kick into high gear they will start to become more energized than ever before.
I only need to work 1 hour a day these days because I have developed systems and process to run my business in the background. Yet I still work up to 10 hours a day, sometimes 6 days a week because for me it’s no longer work – it’s what I love to do.
I never get tired of it, it never drains me and I’m always creating new things to share with the community of people I am growing online. Plus, I get to fit in a very rich and balanced life in every other area as I workout every day, spend time with friends and family, travel a lot, enjoy many hobbies and love spending time at the beach with my 3 dogs.
If you’re ready to embrace your inner Entrepreneur and let your spirit fly free then pick the one thing that you are most passionate about and get started on your journey towards getting paid for what you love to do.
If you’re not sure where this will take you then be assured that neither did I in the beginning and still here I am at this very moment having the time of my life. It’s actually the most fun you’ll ever have discovering how to turn your passion into profit… and once you turn it on, there’s no limits to the amount of passion or profits you can enjoy.
